Forgetfulness
olderloverundercover:  The name of the author is the first to go followed obediently by the title, the plot, the heartbreaking conclusion, the entire novel which suddenly becomes one you have never read, never even heard of, as if, one by one, the memories you used to harbor decided to retire to the southern hemisphere of the brain, to a little fishing village where there are no phones. Long ago...

dreamache
hello-therelove: Is this a word? Because, if it’s not, I submit that it should be. It would be used to describe that particular sense of longing one feels in the morning following a dream that has taken you some place, with someone, that you’d like to stay for a while longer; it’s that feeling in your chest when you realize it was all just a dream and you never really shared that experience...

visit mom
I’ll visit mom in nyc 1/2 for epiphany. It’s an eastern orthodox thing. It’s a little early, but closest I could arrange with work. Can I hear it from the ruthenians in the house?

The Poem That Took The Place Of A Mountain
olderloverundercover: There it was, word for word, The poem that took the place of a mountain. He breathed its oxygen, Even when the book lay turned in the dust of his table. It reminded him how he had needed A place to go to in his own direction, How he had recomposed the pines, Shifted the rocks and picked his way among clouds, For the outlook that would be right, Where he would be complete in...

Voice always precedes touch, A shout, a scream, a hiss, A nervous reassurance, a meaningless invocation, A whisper. How many sounds do you hear Before feeling echoes through life With subtle, determining intensity?

reminiscence
Great Aunt Mary Walker, nee Tiddich, taking the subway down from her apartment in Yonkers to stay with us at the Elliott houses projects for Christmas. She’d sing songs in Slavic, bake more cookies than could possibly be eaten. Most of the cookies had what I think of as the holy trinity of East European baking: butter, cream cheese, sugar. None of that light sugar cookie stuff. This is...

I’m slowly going through a frustrating divorce, still feel so out of place and awkward at 50, and am thankful for new friends and for the opportunities Chicago presents. Roll with it and enjoy the highs as much as you...

had to get out and about
You can’t pass on a 30 degree day after it’s been down around -5 and Xmas eve day added in. It sure got cold fast after 3, though. Got sweetie Kiki pup to the vet in the morning and Dr. W. said it’s one of two fungi, one which will respond to antibiotics and will also go away completely in time and the other which the antiobiotics will kill. She’s also supposed to get...

Is imagination toxic?
I’m thinking about phases of life where people fantasize so much that they’re delusional or obsessive. Is it necessarily the case that psychoactives would be involved in the person’s past?

double-edged razors
I just started using one this year. If you have a heavy beard and you want to have a smooth face there’s nothing better, other than a straight razor or maybe some chemical depilatory. They’re so easy to clean compared to disposables. You’ve got to relax, hurry up and slow down, and shave slower, which can be a plus in the a.m.

wasaaaaaaaaaaaaaabi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve known for quite a while that I really like wasabi 1. Well, wasabi paste, which can contain mustard and horse radish as well as wasabi. It doesn’t effect my esophagus and tongue at all, goes straight to my sinuses and gives me a great head rush. This past Sunday my wife offered me her entire dollop on one piece of sushi and I snarfed it, just giving it a passing thought. Head...

This site has geeky keyboard-based pointers for using Word. I like the Word 2007 blurb, particularly this sentence, “Many of the techniques advocated here do not work with the coming versions of Word.” There’s nothing like planned obsolescence to keep people on their toes.
